MEET EMMA

I started calorie counting in May 2021. I lost 12lb going alone, but found it difficult with no support from like-minded people. When the KCALS girls set up in September 2021, 1 knew without a doubt l'd be signing up. Having got to goal before, I knew it was achievable again. I've lost 20lb with KCALS & 32lb in total since May 21. I've another 14lb roughly to go, but i know I'll get there. I've definitely taken the most scenic route, but it's a path I'm happy to follow. For me, it's a marathon not a sprint. Nothing is out of bounds with KCALS. I know I can still enjoy delicious food, that suits my family too - meaning we all eat the same, which definitely makes life easier. I have the treats love, enjoy meals and drinks out with family and friends without feeling "guilty" or that l've "ruined my week". It's all tracked, and if I'm a little over on my allowance, I cut back the following day. My confidence is returning now I'm slimmer & lighter. I've got a new hobby of walking & hiking which I am loving - plus it helps with the weight loss too!

Everyone is fantastic at giving you the nudge you sometimes need to carry on. Sharing ideas, recipes and just generally being the best bunch of people. l've made so many fabulous friends along the way too. Thanks to the KCALS support I know I can achieve my personal goal - and you can too!

Awards

Our fabulous weight loss awards sit alongside the KCALS goal structure which you can see on the following page. Breaking down your journey into small achievable weight loss goals will keep you motivated and challenge your thinking

You’ll get a charm and certificate for every 5lb, 7lb, Stone, 5%, 10% you lose, for achieving non scale victories and supporting your fellow KCALS members.

Why is 5% and 10% weight loss so important?

Losing 5-10% of your body weight can improve all kinds of health problems, and make you feel so much better.

Ease up on joints

Every 1lb of excess body weight adds 3lbs of pressure on your knees per step. Losing weight can help ease joint problems. If you keep it off, you’re much less likely to get arthritis later in life.

Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

Weight loss can lower your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. If you already have it, losing weight can help you reduce medication, keep control of your blood sugar, and lower the odds that the condition will cause other health problems.

Cholesterol & Blood Pressure

Losing a small amount of weight can boost your heart health in more ways than one. A 2011 study published in Diabetes Care found that people who lost between 5 and 10 percent of their body weight experienced both a boost in beneficial HDL cholesterol and a decrease in triglycerides. Both of these changes are enough to lower the risk of heart disease. They also experienced a drop in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure which may decrease the risk of having a Stroke. Cut your salt and eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and low-fat dairy, and you may lower it even more.
